Caleb Update - 1 month

I can't believe Caleb is 1 month old (6 weeks tomorrow...1/24/08)! Where has the time gone? He was born, then Christmas, then New Year's week, then poof...1 month old! Wow! He is a champ at nursing and eats every 2 hours, on the hour. He is growing like a weed...all that good Momma's milk!

Last Thursday (1/17/08) Caleb and I went to the HEB Harris Methodist Hospital for a little help at the Breastfeeding Resource Center. I found out about this place from a good friend and I am so glad I did! The nurses there are all RN's or above and also are certified in lactation needs. These women were wonderful! All they do is work at the hospital with the new Mommys and Babies. Any way, I found at there are a lot of differences between small babies and big babies. This is why Aiden and Caleb are night and day at nursing. Last week, we found out that Caleb was 11 lbs, 9.4 oz at 5 weeks old! Caleb had gained 2 lbs plus in 2 weeks, as he was 9 lbs, 4 oz (1 oz over his birth weight of 9lbs, 3oz) at his 2 week well baby visit on (12/28/07). Wow! We also found some answers to our nursing saga....I had an infection which was making nursing tender and not healing. So I started doctoring the problem area, which really helped!

Today (1/24/08), Caleb and I went back to the HEB breastfeeding center. We met with our nurse, Laura, again and life is good. I'm still healing but look 10 times better than before. The best news of all...I can nurse without the nipple shield! Yeah! Not that it was bad, but it will be so nice to nurse straight on without a barrier between me and Caleb. Caleb weighed in at 11 lbs, 10.6 oz! Seems like all is well in that department.

Caleb is loving his tummy time and is developing a strong neck and back for his head. It is so cute to see him lifting his head up and looking around. Aiden gets a big kick out of it! Caleb is also starting to coo with sounds and smiling (other than when nursing) and is really looking around and watching objects and people. I also love when he wraps his tiny, long fingers around mine and holds onto it. Sometimes he has slept through the night but nothing consistent yet, just longer extents of sleep periods than others. Big news of all....Caleb has moved to his crib! He departed our bedroom this week and is doing well in his own room. He is also outgrowing his newborn sleepers and is in 0-3months and 3 month clothes, although the true 3 month ones are too big (kinda cute)!

I have some new pics of Caleb but can't post them yet. I received a new camera for Christmas and can't figure out how to get rid of the red eye. So, I'll work on that so I don't have to post pics of demon kids (red eye).
