I can't believe my little Caleb is 3 weeks old. He turned 3 weeks yesterday (Thursday) and I truly didn't even know it. I found out when I logged on to our blog to post pics and there it was on the counter, "Caleb is 3 weeks old." I had to look back at my calendar to confirm this was true. Wow! Where does the time go?
*Disclaimer: If you don't like personal topics, you might want to move on.*
I've had 3 weeks of nursing my little shark. Caleb was a wonderful little nurser in the hospital and all of a sudden...wham! He turned into a hungry little shark! He wants to eat every 2 hours (which is truly not a big deal and I really don't mind) except for the fact that the 1st week he was home he wasn't exactly a gentle nurser. I think this is all due to the fact that his bottom lip doesn't come down much when he is nursing (anyone who has breastfed or is doing so knows that the bottom lip must come down to get a good latch) and his mouth opens just a tiny bit but at a fast rate. So basically, I attempt to begin nursing him via a tiny little space when Caleb's tongue is vivaciously flapping up and down and hope for the best. Yikes! When he is ready to eat and showing signs he latches on with such force and is like "Give me my food now. I was ready to eat 5 minutes ago." I promise my 9lb 4 oz little one isn't starving but he thinks he is......so since it is 4:30 pm and he last ate at 2:30, I had better get ready to feed again. Is it worth it? Absolutely! He gets such a benefit of antibodies and I love the closeness with him, especially being kid #2. So here's to you.....stay-at-home or part-time, nursing mom who gets out of her pajamas and into the shower at 2 pm or so when both of her kids are asleep so she can freshen up and not smell like breast milk or spit up before her husband gets home. Can you say we've seen too much football and beer commercials this season? Scott would say "not possible". Cheers to all of you girls who are or have breastfed your babies and thanks for all of the encouragement with mine!

Iknow how you feel. Walker has been named Barracuda for the very same reason. He is now 2 months old and still eating almost every 2 hrs. exhausting but worth it! hang in there! Angela Byrd
